Fatima’s story
Fatima is 45 years old and the mother of five children. Her husband was killed early in the conflict and she herself fled her home city of Homs in central Syria, along with her children, under incessant bombing. She has only very basic literacy and had never earned her living when she found herself displaced and homeless with no means of providing for her family.
Sabbara taught Fatima embroidery and she became one of our first artisans, way back in 2013. Ever since, Sabbara has been her only means of providing for herself and her family. More than that, through embroidery Fatima has found strength and respect. Hear her story in her own words:
