This cushion with its mesmerising star patterns is named after the iconic Egyptian singer, songwriter and actor, who was often called ‘the star of the East’. It is our homage to one of the greatest female inspirations in the Arab world (the third picture catches Umm Kalthoum, right, with our other favourite, Fayrouz).
This cushion’s impact:
Like all our work, this cushion was made by displaced Syrian women who have lost everything, yet through Sabbara find a dignified income, a supportive community, and a creative outlet for trauma.
100% of sales profit is used to employ more women and continue Sabbara’s work on female empowerment.
Sabbara was established inside Syria in 2012 in response to the escalating war and its devastating consequences for families all over the country. We work to empower displaced women through creativity, arts therapy, and income generation.
