Fly with Drama
A project for Arabic-speaking newcomer women to help them rethink their dreams through acting, writing, playing, handicrafts, and other forms of art.
This project is with Arabic-speaking newcomer women in Toronto who have been oppressed by their communities as women. They are women who need a space to express themselves through art.
This project provides the women an opportunity to think about their lives and dig deep into their souls to bring out not just feelings of trauma but also feelings of joy and success. The project also helps them with their listening skills, focus, and self-discovery. Games and exercises make them feel free. Most women in the Middle East were deprived of living their childhoods to the fullest and were forced to take on huge responsibilities from an early age.
In this project, the women learned how to express their feelings by writing and acting; most of them started to write stories in a monologue style, which helped them understand their feelings and how to deal with them.
These workshops helped the women discover the joy of writing and expressing themselves, motivated them to use their imaginations, helped them turn their stories into monologues, taught them how to build their stories and how to act, and this was a great stage to express their feelings through acting.
