“My work means a lot to me because it was a kind of transformation in my life,” says Juyahna, one of our refugee artisans in Lebanon.

“As Syrian women, the thought of work never entered our minds, we never thought that we would ever work. But the difficult circumstances in Lebanon compelled a lot of us to work.

In the beginning I worked just to bring an income into my house. But after that the work became a part of my life, it became something in my blood.

I became happy when I started working with Sabbara, when I became part of this team. I love the women I work with very much. They are a kind group.

We work hard and we enjoy it, and at the same time, this work is helping us a lot. When we first came to Lebanon, our circumstances were hard, and now they are harder. Life got worse. And everything became more expensive. Our work lightens the pressures upon us a bit, and when we work we feel more comfortable about our rent, our expenses, all the costs of life.

My hope is to always continue in this work, and that we can work with more women, so we can help them too.”
