My Voice in a Quilt
A narrative quilt-making project inviting newcomer Syrian women to gather, to share memories, songs and stories, and create collaborative textile artwork.
Participants worked with professional artists, to explore and express multi-sensory aspects of memory through texture, color and sound, while learning the art of crochet, patchwork and embroidery.
This series of five workshops provided a safe and supportive space for participants to share personal narratives of forced displacement and migration, begin to process the challenges and traumas of dislocation, as well as celebrate the pride of those places left behind.
Throughout this creative journey, participants were able to learn from and connect with one another, and build a new community of strong collective voices.
