“We don’t want charity. We want to work”.
Those were the words which founded Sabbara, said to our founder Manya when she started helping displaced women and their families arriving in her area of southern Syria more than ten years ago. Manya and her team decided to set up a response meeting emergency needs in a way that promoted dignity not dependence. And so our embroidery project was born.

This was one of our first cushions, and is named after her.

The Design

This is a traditional design that you can find in almost every house in Syria especially in the south. All of our patterns pay homage to ancient Syrian tradition and this piece features rich Syrian embroidery on both sides.

The Impact

All profit from sales is used to employ more women and to continue Sabbara’s work on female empowerment. Sabbara was established inside Syria in 2011 in response to the escalating war and its devastating consequences for families all over the country. Its aim is to train women in traditional skills, create a sustainable infrastructure for production, and develop an international market .

Materials: 100% cotton thread with 100% untreated linen sides and back.

Dimensions: 40cm x 40cm

All cushion covers some without pads.
